finding census tract zip codes in TIGER file

I'm too cheap to buy a premade solution so I'm trying to use the TIGER/Line
files to determine the zipcodes that fall into each census tract. From what
I can determine reading the TIGER documentation, it looks like all I need is
stored in the record type 1.

As long as I'm not concerned about zip codes shared by multiple tracts, is
there a gotcha in my approach?

One thing to watch out for is that the Census doesn't use the official
USPS zip code boundary definition; they use what they call "Zip Code
Tabulation Areas." (working from memory so the definition of the
acronym may be slightly off) They are generally analogous to USPS zip
codes and accurate enough for many purposes, but they are "artificial"
zip code boundaries designed for fitting data organized by Census areal
units into non-Census zip code areal units.

thanks. It was not clear in the documentation (and still isn't, at least not
to me) that the zip codes used in the files are the same as the ZCTA's.

I'll keep an eye out.
