Hy to every one!
I've a very big problem working with arcview 9.
I live in the center of Italy.
Here we have two main projection system:
1- Cassnini-Soldner only used to exchange data with "catasto"
2- Gauss-Boaga for all other use
When I start work with arcview 9 some one (my Major) give me some shape file
and some raster file (ortophoto) and say to me that they are project in
Gauss-Boaga. When I add this data in a project and I watch what kind of
projetc they have in the propertie dialog i see "custom".
Athough I've verified that they are oriented in gauss overlapping whit other
data certified to be Gauss-Boaga.
Now the questions is:
How can i to instruct the shape to have Gauss-Boaga coordinate system?
As I have said before the shape is intrinsically Gauss-Boaga so i think that
in this case is sufficient to "inform" the shape with the correct parameter
of Gauss-Boaga for the center of Italy without reproject it.
More over I've to do the same thing with the Cassini shape...!
I think that this procedure is a preliminary matter to allow me, when of it
I have need, to reproject and overlap shapes in the two standards.
I hope that someone here can help me!I really need to know the correct
parameter (Gauss-Boaga & Cassni-Soldner for the center of italy) to
instruct Arcview to know how shape is Cassni-Soldner and how is Gauss-Boaga.
Please sorry for my english..
I'm waiting for some help!
thanks in advance!

If you're sure the data is in Gauss-Boaga, open ArcCatalog, select the
shapefile and select the menu "File | Properties". On the "Fields" tab,
select "Shape", and in the bottom list click on the button next to
"Spatial Reference". Click "Select", browse to "Projected Coordinate
Systems | National Grids" and choose the projection you want. In your
case probably "Roma 1940 Gauss Boaga Est" or "Roma 1940 Gauss Boaga Ovest".
BTW, it seems these two projections were added in ArcGIS version 9.x, so
the "Custom" projection may be a relic from 8.x, to approximate Gauss-Boaga.

Thank you very very much!
I had already watched there but not in the right folder!
Thank you very much again!
Please grant to me another question:
I don't understand very well english but I think to understood that your
information are valid only for Gauss Boaga or better...: in arcview is not
available a simil prj file for Cassini Soldner. Isn't it?
Hoever I am continuing to try to find all the parametr to build my own
Cassini-Soldner projection file.
It's a very hard difficult things for me!
Please if you have more i'm....here and i'm proud to read
and.....understand!
Thank you again!

The following link might help you... when it will be available :

Could also search in the EPSG database.
