Hello,

I currently use MapInfo Pro version 5 with current zipcodes to compare
customer sites to service centers at a 5 digit zipcode level.
I've also done some cellphone site coverage maps. At times I export the
results of map queries to dbase format reports.

Nothing intense compared to what many of you are doing in GIS.

Should I update to the newest version of MapInfo Pro or switch to MapPoint ?
I know nothing about Map Point.

My manager suggested it as a less expensive alternative.

Thanks
Steve

Why do you consider upgrading at all?

Actually it wasn't my idea. It was my managers idea. I'm satisfied with what
I have

Steve,

If your current version of MapInfo works and it does everything you
need then why change to another GIS? I know a lot of MapInfo users
still use older versions and are quite happy with the functionality
offered. In fact, on the MapInfo-L mailing list you'll often find MI
users complaining that upgrades aren't worth the money as the core
functionality of MapInfo hasn't been extend that much over the last few
upgrades.

If you're really want to change then I'd also suggest looking at
Manifold GIS as a cheaper alternative to MapInfo but offering more
functionality than MapPoint.

HTH

I used to check into MapInfo-L years ago before they changed list server
software. Maybe I should check in again.
Thanks for your thoughts,

Steve
