I am developing a web site, and would like to provide map and driving
directions capability. I have been presented with a limited time
opportunity during which I may evaluate map data from a leading provider.

I am looking for an open source application which will run on Linux and
enable me to use data in one of six available formats (Arc/Info,
ArcView, GDF, MapInfo, Oracle, or SIF+). I have been searching GIS
related sites, but am suffering from information overload.

I would appreciate assistance in locating an appropriate application.

Thanks in advance

Joe

Best option is UMN MapServer. It can read map files from several of the
formats you have listed below.

You can try it here http://62.242.60.210/ with my software for creating
driving directions etc.

Joe,

the GDAL library will provide you with interfaces to these formats,
but you would need to interface it into your web interface. The
OpenSoruce GIS GRASS uses GDAL for integration. Find it at
http://www.remotesensing.org/gdal/

Joe,
I recently got Mandrake 10.2 or Mandriva 2005 LE. On it extras disk is a
program called 'Viking' for working with GPS files. It works with
terraserve, other than that I don't know. I don't know Viking's URL but
maybe it's worth a google.
