Hello,
I am looking for township information for Montana. I don't think that is
included in the Tiger/Line data is it? Also, does anyone know how to
convert county names into Tiger numbers? An online resource would be very
useful there... Specifically I am hoping to resolve Beaverhead county into
a number.
thanks

The documentation is available in PDF form. One of the appendices lists
the FIPS state and county codes for all counties. The file names are the
concatenation of the state and county FIPS code. The documentation also
describes how to access geographic entities and their boundaries, which is
what you probably want for township information.
You will want the documentation that matches the version of the Tiger/Line
data you are using, since each version has slightly different record
formats. Here's the link to the latest.

Thanks, Jim,
I clearly should have known that.
