GDF Viewer in AutoCAD

Four Dimension Technologies is pleased to announce the release of a
beta version of a GDF file viewer program which functions entirely
inside AutoCAD.

The GDF Viewer program is currently bundled along with our GeoTools
AutoCAD productivity program ( www.4d-technologies.com/geotools )

The Geographic Data Files (GDF) are used to model road network data
for navigation purposes and is based on the European GDF format.
Currently, the viewer supports TeleAtlas variant of GDF files.

The GDF Viewer is a separately priced add-module to GeoTools and
contains a set of routines that can be used to view, query, analyze
and compare GDF files within the AutoCAD environment.

The GDF Viewer commands are available under a newly-created pull-down
menu within the GeoTools pull-down menu. Currently, the following
commands are available:

IG_IMPORTGDF : Import GDF file
ID_VIEWGDF : View/Query GDF objects selectively
ID_SECTEXTRACT : Extract GDF sections (useful to split-up huge GDF
data-sets)
ID_SEARCHGDF : Search GDF files for specific GDF objects
ID_GDFCOMPARE : Compare two GDF file structure (Record definition
only)
ID_COMPQUERY : Analyze/Query Complex Features
ID_RELQUERY : Analyze/Query Relationship records
ID_PNTQUERY : Draw/Query GDF Point Feature
ID_LINEQUERY : Draw/Query GDF Line Feature
ID_AREAQUERY : Draw/Query GDF Area Feature

The GDF Viewer is still in development and there is a long way to go
to be able to handle all complexities of GDF data modelling. Your
feedback and comments are more welcome. What we have assembled here is
our first effort at understanding the GDF data format and trying to
bring in that data into the AutoCAD environment.

There are still some glitches and known and hidden bugs in the program
and we are attempting to refine and improve the program as much as our
schedule permits.

We will appreciate any and every feedback, good and bad, about this
program, wishlists as well as about GDF files in general.
