Create very simple feature in ArcMap

Hi,

This is an embarrassing question since I do have some experience w/
ArcDesktop , but I'm always reviewing other people's data but never
created my own. I'm using ArcGIS 9.1.

I want to create simple situations for testing. For the purposes of
testing scripts on the simplest cleanest data, the following
question:

I want to create everything from scratch. Very simple, let's say a 2
by 2 degree box, say with a lower-left at 00-00-00/00-00-00 (the
location is irrelevant), then add a fewpoints, lines, polygons and
make it all WGS84. Viewable in ArcMap.

How do I do this?

Problem has been, people are giving me links to ESRI tutorials - but
these tutorials assume and usually feed-off of pre-existing data.
"Create Features" in ArcMap assumes a pre-exisitng layer.

I wouldn't imagine I need a "seed" file to create a simple scenario in
ArcMap...

The easiest way I know of to create a simple blank shapefile is to
open ArcCatalog and browse to the folder that you would like to create
your data in. Right-click and select "new" from the resulting menu.
Select "Shapefile" and you can define your coordinate set and the
shapefile type from there. Once you've done all that you can go to
ArcMap and create a new map and add your new blank shapefile as data
to the map. From that point you can use editor to generate the shapes
and points that you want. I usually do the points, lines, and
polygons as seperate files. I hope this helps and actually answers
the question that you are asking.

Hey,
If I am reading your question correctly the easiest way to handle it
is to go into ArcCatalog. Browse to the folder you would like to
house your data. Right click and select "new". Then select
"shapefile". The dialog box will allow you to define coordinate
system and shapefile type. Once you've created your new shapefile.
Go into the map you are working with or create a new one and import
your shapefile using the add data button. You will have to use editor
to construct your data from there. Hope that helps.
