I've been working with some maps using adobe illustrator. I've been
told that given the project I'm working on I should consider using GIS
but must first convert my files to .shp files. Do you know how to do
this?

Hello,
I have solved this problem like this:
1) *.ai file is exported from Adobe Illustrator (version 11) as *.dxf
2) the *.dxf is opened in ArcMAP 9. (Add data)
3) the opened *.dxf is exported as *.shp (right button on dxf label ->
data -> export data)
data -> export data)
4) the exported *.shp is opened (projection and coordinates can be set
if required) in ArcMap
HTH.
Thanks for the help J-PM. I tried this and everything worked turning
the .ai file into a .dxf. My problem now is in opening up the file in
ArcMap. I found when I added the two .dxf files AdobeIllustrator
created what I ended up with is a single dot where my maps should be.
Did you run into similar problems. Thanks again.
