I have a set of OS (UK) eastings/northing which I need to convert to
Latitude/Longitude. Is there any basic calculation that will provide
this conversion or even a close approximation?
You could try this conveter written for the OS:

It'll convert a text file of lat/long's into X & Y coordinates (e.g
488900, 157990)
