The City University Masters in Geographic Information (MGI) team
announce TWO 50% FEE WAIVER scholarships for any combination of
part-time/full-time and distance/face to face study from the EU or
overseas. Full applications WITH REFERENCES received by FRIDAY
SEPTEMBER 3RD 2004 will be considered (including those already
submitted).

The two GI courses at City are simultaneously face-to-face and
globally-delivered distance-learning courses focussed on GI as a
business, professional and scientific resource for GIS. The Geographic
Information Management MSc is focussed especially on information
management and an understanding of the business, legal, ethical and
financial issues. By contrast the Geographic Information Systems MSc is
focussed on the geographic data handling, spatial programming and
geographic modelling. These courses are aimed at those who want to
build their practical and theoretical knowledge of GI/GIS to an
advanced level and they have an emphasis on next generation GI issues
such as interoperability, intellectual property law, g-business,
information visualisation and location-based services.

The courses are taught by a team of internationally acknowledged
experts in GI/GIS including Jo Wood, Jason Dykes, David Rhind, and
Jonathan Raper. In 2004-5 the leading GI specialist Peter Fisher is
joining City to further boost the MGI team. Between them the team have
authored a number of a number of recent GIS books including, Spatial
Programming with Java (2002), Geographic Information Systems and
Science (2001) and Multidimensional GIS (2000), and they have produced
a number of widely-used GI software tools including Landserf and
panoraMap.

The courses are now entering their fifth successful year of operation
with a student cohort of 60+. In addition to the full-time or part-time
face-to-face mode in London, the course can be studied either full-time
or part-time in distance mode via the web. The course offers access to
a wide range of online learning resources through a dedicated Web-based
virtual learning environment (VLE) WebCT, and our online literature
portal giving access to eJournals and MGI team reprints. Students can
purchase major GIS software at highly discounted rates as part of their
study programme. STUDENTS REGISTERING FOR 2004-5 COURSES OF STUDY WILL
RECEIVE A FREE GPS RECEIVER AND GIS LICENCE FOR USE ON THEIR OWN
COMPUTER ON PAYMENT OF THEIR FIRST FEE INSTALMENT.

If you visit http://www.soi.city.ac.uk/mgi/ you can register your
interest in the courses, see details of the course curricula,
communicate with the staff, read our student profiles and access Open
Day information.

The 50% fee waiver scholarships are available for the entire course of
study of TWO full time or part-time distance or face-to-face students
from either the EU or overseas. The scholarships will be allocated to
the most deserving applicants on a competitive basis whose full
applications (including references) are received by Friday September
3rd 2004. Existing applicants will also be considered. We will continue
to accept applications for 2004-5 until 17th September 2004 from those
who are not applying for the 50% fee waiver scholarships.
