I like my hard drives organized.
when I install cnnant2009 and topo2008 I am prompted for an instal
folder.
The default is F:\ (and I have no idea why).
I change it to "D:\program files\gps & mapping\garmin\cnnant2009" and
the instal continues on it's merry way installing it in F:\cnnant2009.

Mapsource itself is installed in F:\garmin

topo is installed in F:\garmin\topo2008

I have tried everything I can think of including reg modification
after the install. problem is i am missing something and it stops
working.

I tried cleaning out the reg, restoring to days of old, instal as
admin, etc. W7 x64

I even tried a clean instal on a system I just installed W7 x86 on.

It refuses to install where I tell it to.

can someone explain this so I can beat it into submission.

thx

Are you booting your system from the f: drive? Mine always has offered
the c: drive which is the boot drive on my system.

I always let all the garmin installs install to the default and it pick
a folder under the c:\garmin folder. I suspect that if it finds some
Garmin software already installed it uses that as the root folder for
additional installs.

I don't have 2009 but for 2010.1 the registry looks like this

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Garmin\Mapsource\FamiliesNT\City
Navigator North America NT 2010.1]
"ID"=hex:c2,01
"IDX"="D:\Garmin\City Navigator North America NT
2010.1\CNNANT_2010_10.mdx"
"MDR"="D:\Garmin\City Navigator North America NT
2010.1\CNNANT_2010_10_mdr.img"
"TYP"="D:\Garmin\City Navigator North America NT
2010.1\I00001C2.TYP"
"TRF"="D:\Garmin\City Navigator North America NT
2010.1\CNNANT_2010_10_trf.trf"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Garmin\Mapsource\FamiliesNT\City
Navigator North America NT 2010.1]
"Bmap"="D:\Garmin\City Navigator North America NT
2010.1\CNNANT_2010_10.img"
"Loc"="D:\Garmin\City Navigator North America NT 2010.1"
"Tdb"="D:\Garmin\City Navigator North America NT
2010.1\CNNANT_2010_10.tdb"

Just copy all the files to the path you like and change the registry
accordingly.

Works without problems.

As a retired engineer, I fully understand your pain OCD is a bitch.
(nyuk, nyuk, nyuk,) But I think you are forcing it to do something it
doesn't want to do, and you should forget "D". and let it choose the
drive it wants to use.If you plug the SD card into a slot on the
computer, it will see it, and assign a drive designation. Get over it,
and go with the flow. If you plug the GPS into the computer, it will
see it and again assign a drive designation. All the above assumes you
are using XP, of course. If you are using another operating sysytem or
worse, an Apple, your'e on your own, , , ::=3D)
