When my idea of how to get there disagrees with Mapsource's, I add
waypoints along the route until it does what I want.
This works well, unless the route gets recalculated - e.g. for a local
diversion - when the 60Cx ignores all of the in-between waypoints and
calculates a route from here direct to the destination!
Surely it should only recalculate the section from here to the next
waypoint, and leave the rest of the route intact?
Very irritating.

Are you placing waypoints and adding those to the route in MapSource?
If not try that.
I seem to remember that automatic route recalculation for Follow Road
routes will take you to the next waypoint and through the remaining
waypoints if the route was built with waypoints in MapSource and those
were uploaded to the GPS receiver (I have a 76Cx). But that would not
happen if the via points are map points or map lines as you get when you
just click on the map to build a route.
I haven't experimented with this in a while, and I might not have this
right. I remember that if I was on a Off Road route and recalculated
it, it would take the most direct path to the last waypoint in the route
so I turned automatic recalculation off and learned that I should not
recalc routes.

then nearly at e the road was closed, my 60csx kept insisting that I go
to e, even when I had reached point f and beyond using the diversion
signs. I gave up in the end and reverted to paper!

Press Menu from the Routes page and see if the Route Leg Transition is
set to Auto. That controls when it advances to the next waypoint.

For me it abandons the via points in all four cases: "real" or map
waypoints, and routes built in the unit or in PC Mapsource.
I never use automatic recalculation, that _shouldn't_ make a difference,
should it?
