They are not sorted in the file directory and the Garmin doesn't have
that function. Like running the DIR command in a DOS command line, you
get a list of files in the order they were written. AFAICT, POILoader
when crating the poi file for upload, sorts the categories/entries and
writes them in that order. Catagories will then be displayed in that
order with POIs displayed in order of "as the crow flies" distance.
You can overcome some of the limitations by storing your POIs in seperate
sub-directories and sub-sub-directories, naming the directories in a way
which will alphabetise them to your preferred order when POILoader sorts/
converts for upload

At this stage, ie in the Garmin unit, the multiple POI files are just
merged as they are read in.

You cannot simply assume someone is honest
just because they are not an MP.

Yeah, but I upload one with the POI Loader. Those are the POIs that
change quite often. The POI Loader generates these into a file called
'poi.gpi'.
Then I have several more static gpi files with things like redlight
cameras, ATMs etc.

The strange thing is that neither the filename of the GPI file on the
filesystem, nor the internal heading seems to influence the sorting. It
sorts them by some other means (or I am missing something).
my beef is that when I select
Where to
My Locations
Go Home
Favorites
Recent Selections
My Current Location
Custom POIs
All Categories
Wireless Locations
Redlight Cameras
Roadblocks
...
ATM locations
<top heading of my poi.gpi file>
category1
category2
category3
...
where "Wireless Locations", "Redlight Cameras", "Roadblocks" and so on
are each based on a separate *.gpi file, while
"category1,..." are the internal/2nd level headings/categories of the
poi.gpi file.
I want it to look like this:
Where to
My Locations
Go Home
Favorites
Recent Selections
My Current Location
Custom POIs
All Categories
<top heading of my poi.gpi file>
category1
category2
category3
...
Wireless Locations
Redlight Cameras
Roadblocks
...
ATM locations
Does anyone know how to do this by
naming the categories in the poi.gpi file
renaming the gpi files
changing the filesystem dates of the gpi files?
any help is appreciated
