My nuvi 360T shows a (white) north-arrow on the map, afaik also in 3D,
but I am missing that on my wife's new 265T. Is there an option that I
can turn that on/off?

In general, different model may not have the exact same feature/option, so
if you want what your wife has then swap yours with hers (if she won't mind
the arrow). And some model has ONE some has TWO ARROWS and not so sure
which one you are talking about.

- If the arrow is right in the middle of the screen than there is no way (no
sense) to turn it off as it guilds you to the destination.

- If it's on some corner of the screen (electronic compass) then it's a nice
thing to have and it won't block any view. To me that it's the feature all
models should have (I believe only few newer model has this gem).

BTW, if you so sick of the arrow or you don't need it then DO NOT use
routing mode.

I agree. I have 265T - no arrow - not an option either.
So you CAN elect to have NORTH UP and that's the only way to know which way
is north without looking out the window during daylight hours. At night,
unless you have NORTH UP, no idea which compass direction you are driving.

I wonder if the 265's UI is similar to the 760's UI. If I'm not in
"north up" mode, I can always tap the lower left corner of the display
when in map mode to get to a second screen that shows my trip info,
including a virtual compass, speedometer, miles traveled, miles
remaining, max speed, etc.

A second way of seeing which way I'm going is to back out to the main
screen, then press and hold the satellite strength indicator until the
screen changes to show the satellite acquisition details, my
elevation, and my compass heading.

So that's at least two ways to see which direction you're going,
without counting "north up" mode.
