I was trying to do a map update and when I connected my nuvi 200 to my pc
through it's usb port I get back a message of "USB device unrecognizable."
Looking in "My Computer" I don't see the nuvi drive. Every so often though
the pc does recognize the nuvi and it shows up in "My Computer." Then the pc
disconnects from the nuvi I loose the presence of the nuvi in "My Computer"
and the nuvi then shuts down. Most of the time though I don't see the nuvi
at all. This occurs on two pc's. So my question is, is it the cable or the
nuvi?

I have lifetime maps on the nuvi and know if it has to be replaced I'll
loose my lifetime maps for it isn't transferrable. Everything else on the
nuvi works fine.

Thanks.

Ron

I would think that's easy enough to figure out. Which one can you eliminate
from the equation very cheaply, possibly for free?

Want to lend me the cable? I knew that I was wondering if anyone had sent
his problem before. Perhaps I should have put that I my post. Do you where I
can purchase a cable like the one needed to eliminate the cable? If it is
the unit is it fixable, worth fixing? I truly don't want to have to buy a
new unit and lose my life time maps.

My cable is the same as any other mini USB. Cameras, MP3 players, e-book
readers, smart phones, etc use them. Ask your friends or co-workers to
borrow one.

Unless the 200 is weird, it's a standard mini-USB cable. Like $5 at Radio
Shack. $2 mail order form meritline.com or the like...
