Just got an email saying for $120 I can get new maps every year for the
lifetime of the product.

The problem I have with this is they are not telling me when they will
end-of-life my product. Could be this year, next year, who knows?

Did I miss something in the fine print?

I don't think it's the product per se that they will end-of-life; as
long as they produce maps in the format accessible by your device,
you're good to go.

Nonetheless, you're much more likely to want a new sat-nav quickly down
the road, so the lifetime maps is a bad move.

I'm still debating. For me, it's pretty unlikely that I'll upgrade beyond the
76Cx, 7200, and 2720 unless something pretty dramatic happens.

Thus far, Garmin hasn't come out with anything I consider to be a significant
feature upgrade. I'm really not intersested in blue tooth, et. al.. Voice
recognition does intrigue me, but I still prefer the flexibility of the Street
Pilot series.

So, as long as Garmin supports the NT format, my concern is how to deal with a
North America set for the 7200 and a North America/Europe set for the 2720.
I'm still not clear about whether the latter has separate sets for North
America and Europe or whether they're combined. If so, don't know if that'll
cause a problem having NA only for the 7200. Still haven't gotten a clear
answer to that. But, we're not traveling much these days so it's not urgent.

Carl,

Do you know for sure that the nuMaps will work with the 76Cx? I assume it
will since it supposedly will work with the 60Cx. Am I correct that it
requires the NT version of CNNA? I'm using the non- NT version and would
have to replace it with NT to use nuMaps.

As long as that type of map is used (and millions of units use them) you
should be OK. OTOH, if you unit is stolen or drops under the car and is
smashed, your money is wasted.

The second update you will be a few bucks ahead, but to update or not
depends on your use. My maps are two years old and I have no plans to
update yet. I just don't use it that much and so far, it has not failed to
find a location. If I was in a strange city a few times a week every week,
I'd probably update more often. They also state on the web page that they
do an update quarterly so for some people, that may be beneficial.
