On my computer, the restaurants in Italy on Europe City Navigator 2008
maps of Italy show up as squares with knife and fork, the standard
restaurant icon. When I load these maps to my Vista HCx these same
icons show up as slices of pizza. Cute, but not what I want. In the
list of icons for waypoints, the "slice of pizza" icon is not an
option, so I don't know where it is coming from.

Next, I created a waypoint in Italy on my computer and chose a wine
glass icon (it's a winery). When I transfer this waypoint to my Vista
HCx, the icon shows as a flag, as the wine glass is not one of the
Vista's icons.

So, how can I get the Italian restaurant icons to show as the standard
restaurant symbol on my Vista HCx? Where did the pizza slice icon come
from if it's not on my Vista? And why won't the wine glass icon
transfer?

Also, how does one create a "custom icon?" The Vista includes an array
of plain symbols labeled as custom icons, but I can't find out how to
create my own.

Thanks

Tom

You cannot change the icons in your VistaHCx. What you have been
experiencing is "normal". MapSource always has lots more waypoint icons
than the handhelds. Here is a good discussion on how to create your custom
icons which you can then assign in MapSource and they will be the same in
the handheld.

you'll have to live with it as it is. Sorry.

you'll need the program xImage from Garmin, see
http://www.garmin.com/ximage - it comes with some Help on how to use it.
