gps 60 will not power up

help please,
yesterday my gps 60 didnt respond to the on/off button so i popped the back
open and removed the bats. turned off. now it will not turn back on. any
suggestions b4 i call garmin? this unit is relatively new, a replacement for
one that had power button problems as well. i use it mainly for area
calculations, measuring acres in fields. what would yall's recommendation
for a handheld since the gps 60 is giving me so much trouble? thanks
