The Garmin etrex summit hc has an electronic compass.
I think I just discovered that the compass page has two uses.
1. When in motion the compass page is controlled by the goto
waypoint .
2. When stationary the compass page turns into just a magnetic compass
not controlled by the goto waypoint.
Am I right?
So, should I turn off the electronic compass unless I want to get a
regular magnetic reading
or ( there is this setting about speed and seconds) --what should I
set it at?
In general what is the best policy in using the electronic compass
feature?

I may be wrong but I think the electric compass uses enough power to
shorten battery life substantially when kept on. I suggest keeping it off
except when you need to know directions when stationary, then turn it off
again.
