I have a nuvi200. While there are sufficient parking
options stored in the POI database, it is hard to find parking near the
place I want to go to.
For some reason, the nuvi only allows me to easily find parking near the
*current* location. Often, I want to first search for a POI (say a
restaurant, school or such), and then in a second step immediately try
and locate a suitable parking structure while I am still further away.
Is that doable in any way? The problem is aggravated by the fact that
the nuvi does not display POIs in the maps unless I zoom right in.
Mathias,
Yes, the technique is quite easy. I've covered it in
several of the articles in my Garmin GPS Tricks, Tips, Work
Arounds, Hints, Secrets and Ideas located at
http://snipurl.com/garmin_gps_tricks
Set you n=FCvi in 'non-satellite looking mode' and do a 'set
loc' at the far off point. This tricks your GPS into
thinking it is someplace else than where it really is.
Now when you do a search for your parking areas it starts
from this new location and you will easily find what is
close to that place.
See article
I'VE BEEN SET-UP! - Tourist Trip Management
as an example
Another way, if you n=FCvi has it, is to exercise the 'Near'
button. Tell your GPS to find the parking areas near XXXXX.

Many POIs for Your List

If you need further details just ask.
There are also lots of other helps that you can find on
the WEB site.
Good Luck
