Just downloaded a map update for my Garmin Nuvi 255.
There were a couple of surprises in the actual procedures
and other software required.
1 - The download checks and will install the latest version of .NET
2 - The header area of the downloader program has three progress titles:
Downloading - mine had "200 hours" but was probably "minutes"
Prep - 5 mins
Installation - 40 mins
Went out for the afternoon - and when we came back it was done...

The time actually did mean hours I think. Mine started at 143 hours. I did
watch it for a few minutes and it dropped 10 or so hours off the counter
every couple of minutes. If I recall correctly, it eventually finished
downloading in about an hour and a half.
The "Preparing" step probably includes things like extracting the full data
from the downloaded source. The map's directory contains 180 folders.
It did also take quite a while to install on my Nuvi 780. The estimate for
that one was 75 (or so) minutes.
