If you were Registered and logged in, you could reply and use other advanced thread options
The 76CSx allows for deleting of a group of waypoints with a certain symbol.
Is there any way to attach a new symbol to a group of waypoints instead of
the clumsy and tedious manual method?
Thanks

not within the 76CSx, but you should use your PC for any kind of waypoint
management. You can change the symbol of a group of waypoints using Garmins
Mapsource, or a third party program like Gartrip. The procedure is the same:
Select the waypoints you want to change, hit "Edit" or "Properties", then
select another symbol.

You can select a group of waypoints in Mapsource and edit them as a group.
The symbol can be set for the group.
You can select in the waypoint list or by dragging with the pointer
on the map. Switch to the waypoint list to edit after selecting on
the map with the pointer.
