Intersting! that was one of my possitive impressions I reported it here
when I first got the Nuvi 1490T saying something like *unlike* the Nuvi-680
which requires a special USB cable to be used as regular GPS mode, with the
Nuvi 1490T it works fine with regular USB cable (not exact word).

And I have tested and used several different USB cables and my Nuvi 1490T
works with all of them. Lets see

1. I tried the computer USB cable with no DC adapter which I connected to
the AC adapter with USB connector.

2. I tried the USB connector with AC adapter to the DC->AC converter and it
works fine too.

3. I tried the USB with DC adapter for cellphone, MP3 player, and others I
don't really know what there are original for. And they all work.

And this is what I have been using Nuvi 1490T on my motorcyle that I had
hard time with Nuvi 680.

P.S. I didn't quote the part we mentioned about CAR adapter and AC Adapter
etc.. and I mean connecting the Nuvi 1490T with regular USB to cigarette
lighter, or DC/AC adapter *not* to computer.

ok... must have been some parallel universe thing -
just tried the 260 - and it works just fine -
and the battery icon area press + hold 8secs works
(was thinking of the sat screen not avail on the 260)
but the diag screen shows it is charging

Something is wrong, it should be charging.

Sounds like the same thing that happened to my nuvi 260. Car charger quit
charging and it turned out to be the right angle connector that plugs into
the gps. I was able to close the connector down some to make better
contact, but have another cord ordered off ebay for $5.75 del. Could be
your problem also.
Good luck,
MR
