I have a Garmin nuvi 260
and was wondering about the car power adapter...
I'm not sure if I have really seen this - or imagined it :)
It seems that the power adapter
does not "charge" the battery unless the nuvi is turned off ???
I had the adapter plugged in (yes - red led on adapter, no battery icon on
screen)
drove around all day - and at the end -
When I unplugged the nuvi, the battery was not full ??
BTW - the power outlet is on all the time, not switched with ignition.
The nuvi charges fine from the USB - full bars.
I'll have to check again..... after running it on battery...
1 - see how many battery bars display
2 - plug into car adapter, run around all day
3 - unplug & view battery bars

My Nuvi 750 charges the battery in the car while the unit is turned
on. Why wouldn't it? In fact, if power is applied to the adaptor, I
really don't think you can turn it off. The display back light goes
off and the display says "Charging battery" or something like that.
When you turn it back on, it is already locked up on several
satellites. If I pull it off the mount with it turned off and then
turn it on, it will take a few minutes to lock up on all the
satellites.
