Purchasing a 76CSx unit, wondering if the screen can be flipped (in
software) so the buttons are on the bottom as you hold it in your
hand, seems like it's designed upside down. Why?
Bob
Why ??? Just pure preference of the user. Some like the 76CSx with the
screen down and buttons on top, some like the 60CSx which is exactly the
same device ( except it doesn't float in water ) with the screen on top and
the buttons down !!
Cheers,
JCE
I've had the 76csx for over a year. What a great device. Just use it
for a couple hours and you have one accurate, dependable and easy to
use GPS.

A man at a keyboard can steal more money than a man with a gun.

No, it cannot be done that way. Sounds like you should have bought a
GPSMAP 60CSx, those have the buttons at the bottom.
With the 76CSx, have you noticed that the heft of the receiver is nicely
centered over your palm?
And that you have a very nice and comfortable grip on the sides? A grip
that is far superior to that of the 60CSx with most of the bulk and
weight above your grip?
And that you can easily reach all the buttons on the 76CSx with your
thumb without shifting your grip or blocking the display? Unlike the
60CSx which requires shifting your grip down and reaching down awkwardly
with your thumb to use some of the buttons?
Put the 76CSx in a neoprene or wet suit case and stand it up and lean in
back against the dashboard of a boat. Notice how nicely it stays there
because of the rectangular shape of the case? Do the same thing with a
60CSx, notice how easily it falls to one side?
Toss your 76CSx in the water, notice that you can go and retrieve it
because it floats? Do the same thing with a 60CSx, notice how it slowly
sinks out of sight beneath the water? Go for it! You'll have time to
catch up with it!
Change microSD cards in the 76CSx, notice that it takes about 15 seconds
if you are working slowly and carefully, less if you push it? Push the
card in and it pops out, push the new card in and it is finished.
Change a microSD card in a 60CSx, notice that you have to remove the
batteries and the little gizmo that holds the card in place. Notice
that it takes a lot longer.
And remember, you with either the 76CSx or the 60CSx you have to very
careful to keep the batteries level to the case when you are putting the
batteries back as tipping some of the longer batteries in threatens the
battery contacts with breakage or deforming.
I will admit that the antenna on the 60CSx is better for cleaning the
dog's ears. But that is about it. :>)

Everything Jack said. I am a 76CSx owner and have used a 60CSx. The only
reason the 60CSx is more popular is the "cool" factor of its walkie-talkie
shape.
