Its a new day, and I now have a card reader that recognizes a 4 GB SDHC
card.
In the meantime I was able to download and install the Ibycus Topo map
for all of Canada. What a work of art!
So this afternoon I selected all of City Navigator North America (which
no longer contains Mexico!) and the western Canada part of the Ibycus
Topo, plus Arizona Topo, New Mexico Topo, and Hawaii Topo.
This constituted 609 maps, 2252.5 MB.
It took an hour to prepare this for transfer, and 15 minutes to transfer.
There's still plenty of room on the 4 GB card for more.
Dave S.
FYI - concerning flash & USB transfer rates;
USB 1.1 - 12mbit (1.5MB)
USB 2.0 - 480mbit (60MB)
Here's a quick list of some tests I ran
using a program called BART's Stuff
http://www.nu2.nu/bst/
I use the -> Options -> Quick Test
Dell C610 laptop with USB 1.1 port,
and Garmin 255 with micro-SD card,
vs a normal SD card reader.
SD Card - 920kb/s write 954kb/s read
thumb drive - 845kb/s write 925kb/s read
Garmin D: - 589kb/s write 552kb/s read
Garmin E: - 460kb/s write 560kb/s read
micro/adapter 896kb/s write 880kb/s read
and of course - YMMV -
