Maybe it just didn't figure you needed directions that far away from
home. After all, you were using it within a couple blocks of home<g>

Then again, maybe the "bitch on the hump" just got mad at you for
ignoring her. I've been tempted to code in a replacement to
"Recalculating" and thought that "Listen up, dumbshit! I'm getting tired
of this."

Some of the early autorouting streetpilots had some serious problems
with limited-access interchanges as well, especially ones on
not-interstate highways. The GPS had no clue that "turn left in point
five miles" would require bearing right in point one miles (or about
five seconds of travel time) to meet a ramp that connected the highway
to a frontage road prior to an overpass.

This one's actually off of an interstate, but it's not atypical in the
region, even for just US or state highways.

I don't have any idea what caused it, but my 855 did it last Saturday,
twice. I was doing some cemetery caches at the time and was still in one
cemetery when I had the 855 route me to the next cache. I followed the
highlighted route both times and it turned out to be right.

Here's an interesting, and rather famous intersection that must have caused
some head scratching for the map designers

(European maps only, sorry)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_Roundabout_ (Swindon)
N 51 32.735'
W001 44.734'

Tried one turn, simulating on my Nuvi 200w, and it worked reasonably well.
They simplify the intersection by ignoring the inner roundabouts and the
counter-clockwise inner core.
