Nuvi 260:
Stopped at a corner-----Map showed a left turn--the little lady said to take
a right turn. I listened to her and went right. She then said (almost
right away) "make a U turn". The map was correct.
Curious if there is any kind of explanation for this type of behavior?

I've seen this behavior. I dunno.

The moral of the story is, the sat-nav is a helper--it's not driving the
car. Do what makes sense.

Women can never make up their minds? But then I'm surprised, being a
man, you asked for directions in the first place.

Well, this is a fun puzzle. Here are a couple of ideas:

Scenario 1 - map glitch, plus the fact that the active route highlighting
changes to a white "arrow", which in some cases can take on a complex
shape, and be mistaken for un-highlited road surface that is not included
in the route.

1) the map indicates a no left turns at that intersection, due to an out of
date map or otherwise incorrect database. So the calculated route includes
a right turn followed immediately by a U turn.
2) The screen shows the active right (and perhaps the U turn) in white, and
the subsequent path in pink, giving the appearance of a left turn.
3) The U turn is announced, followed by going straight.

Less likely scenario 2 - position glitch.
1) a glitch in your position changed the location and orientation of your
car for a few seconds
2) the voice announced the wrong turn, but the screen did not have time to
repaint
3) the car moved, and the orientation and loc of your car were restored to
normal.

If scenario 1 is correct, you should see the same thing happen next time
you are at that intersection.

Straight forward generic left turn with no complications. Maybe the little
lady was out partying and had too much to drink.
