I like the concept of the Nuvi 500. It is waterproof
and rugged and made for car use, walking use,
geocaching....
However I just cant afford one right now. Does there
exist another Nuvi with same firmware and features such
that I could put in say an Otterbox container to make
it waterproof??
the issue would be - waterproof while using.... kayak, canoe, etc
vs just tossing into a Pelican box or whatever when done.

but what cheaper nuvi model has same feature set as
nuvi 500?

Better than nothing, but those tend to aquire pinholes when bumped
between hard objects. A tougher bag is recommendable, but it's your
gizmo, not mine.
