Just bought a MS Traffic cable for my Nuvi 205W. I did some research here,
on the Garmin site, and on the MSN Direct site. The cable came with a 1
year subscription to MSN Direct. The subscription was $50 a year versus the
lifetime Navtec traffic on the other cable, but the extra stuff like weather
and things seemed worth it. I just got the cable today. When I went to
register the thing, I get a message that the service will be discontinued as
of January 2011. This was NOT mentioned on any of the sites I looked at.
Had I known this, I would have bought the other cable. As it is, I will
need to buy another cable in a year. Yes, I could return the cable and buy
another one, paying return postage on the old cable and postage on the new
cable. Right now, I'M PISSED! I feel that Garmin is basically lying on
their web site by hiding this information.

You are off by a year. Service will go to 2012, but I'd still be pissed.
Perhaps after two years and two months you'll be ready for a new GPS anyway
and the pain will be lessened.

MSN Direct service will be available only until January 1, 2012.

Customers can continue to enjoy the full benefits of MSN Direct, along with
service and support, up until that date. Pro-rated refunds for unused
portions of existing One-Time Payment and other subscription plans will be
automatically credited after January 1, 2012. Customers may cancel service
at any point prior to that date and receive a pro-rated refund for any
unused portion of their subscription. Microsoft customer support is
available to answer any questions about existing subscriptions or refund
eligibility at 1-866-658-7032

I just bought an MSN Direct enabled navigation device, what do I do?
MSN Direct service will continue to be available until 01/01/2012. New 12
Month subscriptions will continue to be offered through December 2010. If
service beyond 01/01/2012 is a concern, please see your retailer for
information on device returns.

9. Why haven't I been notified by Microsoft about this change?

12 Month subscription customers will continue to receive their service
through the end of their current subscription. One-Time Payment customer
notification is beginning 10/27/2009 via email and is expected to be
completed within two weeks.

On https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=8526&locale=en_EN
is mentioned:
Visit MSN Direct to extend your current service, purchase a service plan for
an additional area or view coverage information.

and on http://www.msndirect.com/coverage.aspx
Service Announcement:
MSN Direct service will be available only until January 1, 2012. Learn more.

This is clear, no?

And that wasn't on the page when I checked coverage.
