Sorry group for asking, noone well answer me in the Windows group.
Windows XP vs Vista. Ive ran both system without to many problems. Right
now Im running Vista Home Pre. on a DELL XPS410. It came preloaded on my
system. I've ran it now for just over a year without, really, any problems.
Now dont get me wrong. alot of my old hardware want run on it, but, they
needed replacing anyways. Much of it I could go and download Vista drivers
and they work great. I can remember when I ran XP pro., At first it was a
pain in the, well lets keeps it "G" rating. After a bit though MSFT patched
just about everything. So, in the end XP was a vary good OS. Now Vista hasnt
been bad eather. I guess I just dont see what all the fuss is about. I did
think Windows was way overdue for a facelift and Vista does make it look
abit better, up to date that is. Well, ya'll see where Im going with this.
Any thoughts?
Happy Nav.
Darren

Well, I haven't used Vista for a while (since a friend of mine got it
and I had to get it working). That's been a while ago. The impression I
had of it then was that it had a large footprint of system utilization
both disk and memory footprints. Plus the security layer was a royal
PITA. Once I figured out how to bypass that crap it was less painful. I
won't say tolerable, but less painful. A lot of older third party
software they had wouldn't work (it may now, I don't know). It just
seemed to me like overkill in the "we're going to protect you from
yourself" arena.

I'm on WindoZe XP Pro and my next Op. Sys change will be to Linux. I use
it as well as AIX at work and have for years. Only reason I haven't
switched totally yet is that we have 3 systems and I don't want to be
the sys admin all of the time plus teaching my better half linux/aix
would be a challenge.

My next system will be linux though.

His last sentence. "Any thoughts?".

Admittedly I don't understand why if no one "answered" him in the Windows
group, he would think anyone here would either.
So saying that, my answer would be "Ok, you've got your opinion about the
value of Vista vs. XP. I have my own opinion, but since this is a
satellite group, I won't bore anyone with my thoughts as they are
inappropriate here. So, can we kill this thread and move on to something
more appropriate to this NG?. (That's MY question).

The NG I was asking in was alt.binaries.windows.vista. maybe I was in the
wrong group. Anyways, Ive asked a few things in this group and got some vary
good answers from everybody. Seems like a good group, thats kinda hard to
find lately. No problem thread killed, Sorry for my error.
