I just bought a Garmin 1390LMT. I was wondering if I could delete the voices
in other languages that I have no use for?

Yes, but in my case (Nuvi 760) I copied them to a folder on my PC in
case I ever want to put them back.

You can. But I'm not sure why you'd bother to unless you've got
something else you're planning to use the space for.

Bill -

I have the 1490T. When connected by USB to the computer, it mounts on
the desktop. Double-clicking brings up a screen with several folders
including one called "Voice".

In its Voice folder, the 1490T has 124 items and occupies 402.3
Megabytes. This is not a large percentage of the total space on the
Nuvi, but it only has 55 Megabytes to spare. I don't recall, but may
have added one or two voices during an update session.

The items appear to be in pairs of .sum and .vpm files such as
Afrikaans__.sum and Afrikaans__.vpm. Included are English American,
English Australian and English British pairs. They may have an
additional name like Jack, Jill, Karen, Lee, Daniel and Emily.

I think you can delete any you don't want as long as you keep both
members of each pair you want. To be safe, make a backup copy of the
entire Voice folder on your computer's hard drive before deleting
anything!
