I just bought a 650 that does not include a CD or DVD. The map data
are pre-installed. Is there a way I can copy the data onto a PC where
I can use Mapsource to view the maps?

No, you cannot use the files on the nuvi to install Mapsource on a PC.
Some people have reported that Garmin will send you a dvd free of
charge once you have regestered your unit.

Thanks. Just registered it. I almost threw away the little piece of
yellow paper which turned out to have registration code on it. I
thought it was only a safety warning on using GPS.

What Bob said!

Go online, sign up at My Garmin, then call them at 1 800 800 1020 and
ask them to send you the DVD. If the person says you cannot have it,
call again and ask someone else. That will usually get it for free.

Act a little incredulous that it was not included, we're trying to get
Garmin to see the light on the fact that it should be the buyer's choice
(not Garmin's) as to whether or not they can use the mapping on their PC.

What Bob wrote

I also just bought a nuvi 650 and didn't know enough to be disapointed
that it didn't come with a CD/DVD. Your qusetion helped me because I
also had the question of why can't you see the map when you plug it in
to your PC. After speaking to a tech-rep using the number Jack
provided, I learned that it my also be possible to live navigate with
the software using a notebook PC. I don't know about that but, I do
wonder what else it my be able to do if you had the CD/DVD. In any
case he offered to send it right out to me for $15.00 :( . I did
express my opinion that it should have been included in the first
place and that the individual would decide wheather or not they wanted
to use it. Personally I think I would like to use it, at least I would
like the choice.
