Hi Guys

I have a Etrex Vista HCX that I've used in the UK for a few months. I
will be heading to France and Switzerland this summer and I was
wondering if I need to change any of the settings.. i.e. datum etc...?
Or are the settings the same as the UK?

Thanks for any help. I've had a good search around on the internet but
couldn't find any information.

I suggest you start by changing the time zone. There is not much point in
changing the coordinate system or datum unless you also have paper maps. If
you do, then choose the same coordinates and datum as are used on the map,
probably UTM in France and the Swiss grid in Switzerland; if it works like
my 60CSx, it will automatically select the corresponding datum. If you are
using it on roads, then you may want to change the units to metric (for
distances and speeds). Set altitude to metric. If you are in mountains you
may also want to choose units for rate of climb or descent. Any other
offers?
