I am about to have to walk a newbie (via e-mail) through installing TOPO
2008 and interfacing his 76C to the computer. Does anyone know if the
installation of TOPO installs the USB drivera during the process? I'm trying
to avoid describing the separate driver installation.

Thanks for any help.

Why would you need to install USB drivers? Every Windows OS since 98
has included USB drivers. Does the 76C require something other than a
standard USB interface? Is he using an OS other than Windows?

According to Garmin, the USB drivers Windows would install will not work
correctly with their products including the 76C and 76Cx models. If this has
changed I am not aware of it.

Huh?
I have a 76csx and it works fine with my Windows XP.
When I first installed it, Windows found it and said "ready to use"
I download routes, it recognizes my unit number and downloads web based
geocaches perfectly.

Can't argue with that. Garmin does offer a download for the purpose. I think
it's called "usbdrivers_221" or similar. Is it possible you installed a
Garmin map product and it installed the Garmin drivers during the
installation? Which was my original question. Windows would use them when
you plugged in your 76 and report it ready to use.
