So what is the current differences between the:
100k US Topo Map on DVD and the
100k Upper East Coat on DVD.
Is the East Coast more detailed?
Thanks!
Silly Me!
Upper East Coast is download, but I finially remembered (was prompted)
that the 24k maps offer more detail!!

And as I recently noticed here, there are a lot free 24K topo maps out
there that are actual scans of the USGS 24K topo maps and those are free
for the downloading. Look at the screen shots here for the comparison:

I have not tested the Maine maps yet but it says that the maps will be
seen listed as one of the available maps in MapSource and that they can
be selected and uploaded to the GPS receiver along with your other
Garmin mapping.

So now I have tested them. These maps are wonderful!!
It only took about 3 minutes and I now have very good 24K topo detail
for the entire state of main and it cost me nothing! The mapping is
very good, it has a lot of POIs built in to it in addition, I can leave
my Marine Points Database on with the topo mapping and I get all the
navigational aids (buoys, lighthouses, etc.) along with the mapping.
And that topo mapping was visible with both Mapsource 6.13.7 and
6.15.whateverIhavenow.
This is a breakthrough for me as far as publicly available mapping that
will work on Garmin receivers.
I have not tested an combined upload with Bluechart and City Navigator
yet but that is next.

Excellent find! I brought down the NY maps and compared to Garmin Topo
East, they're great! I'll be bringing down a few more states worth of
topos. Currently bringing down Ibycus USA, but the download is a bit
slow. For the price though - I can't complain! ;-) I don't know if it
supports auto-route or not but I figure it's worth a look. I suspect the
answer is that it doesn't though. In any event - the topos are well
worth the time to bring down.
