I just bought a new nuvi 255 and would like to transfer my favorites from my
old c530 into the Nuvi. Any help would be appreciated.

For a new nüvi 855 I just transferred them via MapSource. No problems. Well, a
few, but they are covered in my recent post vis-a-vis waypoint transfers to the
855.

Do you have a MapSource installation available?

If yes, I think this will work.

Connect in Computer Connected or Mass Storage Mode (MSM) and down load
the waypoints from the C530. That will put the Favorites in MapSource,
then you can connect the nuvi in the MSM and upload the waypoints to the
removable drive that is the storage card. When the nuvi is disconnected
from the MSM and restarted it will start a dialog about saving the
Favorites to the nuvi.

I don't think the C530 had the capability to save the user data
(favorites) to the SD card so you can't migrate the data that way. But
I think that MapSource will read them from the receiver so the above may
be the easy way to do it.

Without a MapSource install, you may be able to use a third part
application that will read a Garmin USB connection to download the data
from the c530 and upload it to the nuvi. That opens up a whole new
series of needs, those being to get USB drivers and loaded and and find
a suitable application.

Some have suggested using MapSource, but I doubt that MapSource comes with the
255...

You can purchase Trip & Waypoint Manager for about $30 to use in place of MS:

The OP emailed me, he has an install of MapSource, the latest version I
think he said.

Buying T&WM would not give him anything more than a MapSource install
with no mapping for managing data with. At least that is my view of
T&WM, that it is or no use to anyone that already has a MapSource
mapping product installed or has installed MapSource from one of the
other "circuitous but free" methods.

So if you know of a way to get the data off of a C530, that is really
the info he needs.

Cheers,

Jack
