There seems to be three sources for traffic data, depending on the
model. Two are paid, MS and the FM system on the Nuvi 760, and a free
one like on the Nuvi 265WT.

Which one is best for reliable, timely info? Anyone used them all?

None of them are "free". The "lifetime" traffic data accounts on the
units with included traffic receivers are factored into the purchase
price.

BTW, the description for the traffic receiver on the 760 contradicts
itself. In the first sentence of the detailed description, it says
"lifetime traffic updates" (footnoted to define as "useful life of" the
receiver or as long as the service exists). In the second sentence, it
says that it comes with either a 3 month or 12 month subscription. That
is hardly "lifetime" by any definition. If you're considering the 760,
you will probably want to get Garmin to clarify which one of those two
statements apply.

The Clearchannel system, as on the 760, is slightly more comprehensive
than the NAVTEQ system, as on the 265WT, but there's that question
about whether it's lifetime or not. The XM and MSN based services
requires a separate subscription from the providers and offer more than
just traffic info. Of the terrestrial based services, it looks to me
like MSN has the largest coverage, and possibly the best feature set. A
one-time-purchase lifetime subscription is available from the MSNDirect
site.

I would expect that the XM based service can be received from anywhere
on the continent, but I cannot locate info on what areas actually have
traffic data.

I have no idea about which one is the most reliable. That would likely
depend at least in part on where you are. My only experience with
traffic data receivers is the one built into my last GPS, a Navigon,
which uses Yet Another Service.

Have you always had this in your sig? I just noticed it today.

Luckily, I keep my Double ROT13 decoder on by default.

No, not always. I put that in about two, three months ago.

Notes on Fortress Construction: 5. Self-destruct mechanisms should
only be triggerable from the heart of your device/ship/fortress, and
should implode from the outside rather than explode from the inside.

"and

Why?
