Is it worth getting the GTM 12 Traffic Receiver for my 550 whilst in the car
to give me some idea of the traffic around?
The XM system in the States is supposed to _very_ good. I've not tried or
heard of anything being reliable in the UK, and since it's based on
Trafficmaster, I tend to feel it will be about an hour behind what is really
happening on the road.
I'd appreciate your knowledge and experiences.
TIA

I have a Garmin 660 with this built in. It has only once ever shown
me a blockage, and that was more than 50 miles away and nowhere near
where I was going. So far, in my experience, it isn't worth a toss.
It probably would be, if the databases or whatever they use were
updated. Maybe I should contact the company.

Seems strange that it was that far out, I thought the system was _supposed_
to be local?
Well, I've bought one now, so I've either wasted 0 sovs, or not.
thanks for the info.

I've got a Nuvi 680 (MSN Direct) and live in the Chicago area. Coverage any
further out than 15 miles from downtown Chicago is almost never available.
As my driving is almost always from that point or further out I've pretty
much come to the conclusion that the service is just a bit better than
useless. That's especially true as the secondary roads that the traffic
avoidance algorithm routes me to are not part of the system and are often
far slower than the slowdown I'm being routed around and assume posted speed
with no allowance for delays at traffic lights or stop signs.

I'd be really interested to hear what sort of coverage users get with GPSs
that have XM radio-equipped traffic recievers.

I can't speak to other Garmin units with traffic (I have a pair of 2610s
that aren't traffic equipped) but I do have the traffic feature on the
Telenav GPS built into my blackberry. It typically gives notice as far as
10 miles along my route from the current location.
