Don't own ANY gps at the moment
Cost is an issue but here are my needs:
Carnivorous plants are a hobby of mine.
Wanting to take a trip to southern Mississippi in Mar
to go look at some pitcher plants in bloom
I need a GPS that will help me with DRIVING there....
and then one that will help me with HIKING to the
actual plant site
I've looked at the Garmin 62s and have been told it
does "OK" on the driving instructions part
However the 62s is pretty "pricey" for me at the
moment.... abt $350 or more
I'm wondering if I'm not better served with TWO GPS
units.... say a $100 unit for driving... and maybe
something cheap such as the Garmin Gecko (maybe $100)
for hiking?
What say you all? Is the Garmin 62s too much of a
compromise on the driving side given its cost?
Bottom line which approach is gonna be best for me
given my needs and constraints on COST as well?

I use a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx for similar purposes. You just need TWO sets

I use a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx for similar purposes. You just need TWO sets
of maps in the GPSr, and select the one you want at any particular time.

OK but on the "driving" side of those maps....
How "detailed" are the driving maps? Will they have
such things as restaurants, hotels, hospitals, places
to visit, etc.... in them? Or are they strictly a
dumbed down set of auto driving maps that only have
highways in them?
I think I NEED the driving GPS to have all these
amenities such as restaurants, hotels, etc in them as I
will be driving in an area I have never been to

Dutch topomap. The European map is the same map as the nuvi uses, so the
same items show on my 76. Hiking means just selecting a different map.
The main difference between my 76 and nuvi when using in the car for
navigation is that the nuvi talks to me and the 76 beeps to get my
attention to look at the screen for the next instruction. Reaching a
turnpoint gives a different kind of beeps so you don't have to look at
screen again. Works ok for me.
