Turned on my Nuvi 265WT and got a screen with the GARMIN logo in the
center and the words SYSTEM SOFTWARE MISSING above that. If I power
off and back on I get the same exact screen. I can't do a reset and
the unit doesn't seem to respond to anything. I connected it to my
desktop and the desktop recognized the unit but when I use Webupdater
it is unable to locate a unit connected to my desktop. I've visited
the Garmin website and done an online search to no avail and I'm
sitting on hold with Garmin support (a long distance call since there
doesn't seem to be an 800 number) and a recording is saying that the
wait on hold is 30 to 40 minutes. Anyone had any experience with
something like this and resolved it?

TIA

Thanks ED. I realized AFTER posting and after making the call that I
had simply overlooked the 800 number on the website in my haste.

Some people have said they make a software image of everything on the
Garmin as a first step, before even putting the unit into service.
Theoretically, if you had done that, you could restore the original
software and be back in business.

(No, I didn't save the original software on mine either.)

Not that I've ever gone looking for such a feature, but I've never heard
of it before.

Can my old 76CSx be backed up, or is it something that only the new
boxes can do?
