I currently own a Garmin 12 and Garmin V, and a Nuvi 765.

The nuvi is new, and used in the car. I want to update
my 12 c.q. V with a new Garmin unit.
I am considering the Oregon, Dakoto, 62 series or 78 series.

Most important for me is a good reception of signal in
forest (under trees) and builded areas (cities).

Any suggestions what would be the best choice for me?

I am aware of the difference between the units I mentioned,
but in this question I am just interested in the difference
of reception quality in relation with my old units.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Wim

The Nuvi 765 is not suitable for outdoors (short
battery life, not waterproof etc).

The Garmin 12 and V are old units, and have problems
with reception under trees and other difficult situations.

Its more or like the question about a new PC :).

Off road use. OP should be aware that he will need to purchase maps.
Base North American map that came with my Etrex Legend HCx was useless
as only major roads were included.

There are options for free maps, eg OpenStreetMap.
It may not be perfect, and there are streets missing in some places, buy
its still pretty good for many countries. Much more useful than the
basemap anyway!

There's also a variety of free contour maps available.
