Item has been working flawlessly since purchase (over a year ago).
Very pleased.

Today I replaced 2 older mp3 songs with newer ones and now upon
powering up the unit, it stays on the "loading maps" screen and
doesn't do anything else.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

Thank you..

The warranty expires at one year, right?

Sounds similar to the error that occurred on my 2620 when the hard drive
failed. But your 2730 does not use a hard drive, it has flash memory.
I wonder if the memory is going bad or corrupted or something.

You might call Garmin Tech Support 1-800-800-1020 and see if there is a
way to restore the preloaded maps.

Also, they have been known to occasionally show some mercy on the one
year warranty period. Otherwise, people generally don't feel it is
worth the flat rate repair charge to get it fixed.

Ouch! I thought I was the only one that had that kind of luck. The
Garmin toll free number will put you on hold but I've never had to wait
more than a few minutes to speak to someone.

They let me return my 2620 outside of the warranty period when it had a
failed microdrive. I got a different unit back that could not be told
from new and it had the latest version of City Navigator preloaded to it.

I'm a happy camper on Garmin's support for the most part. They have
orphaned my StreetPilot 2610 as far as their recent Daylight Savings
Time software updates but the work around is simple enough.

If I were going to put a dash mount GPS receiver in the Smithsonian
Museum as an example of one of mankind's greatest consumer level
navigational developments it would be the 2610.
