Since I have not had my Nuvi 350 for long my experience with it is limited,
but I think that I am seeing strange things. So I have some simple routing
questions:

1) Will it always choose the same route from A to B?

2) Will the route it chooses from A to B be the inverse of the route it
chooses from B to A?

3) If it chooses a route from A to B which goes through C, will the route
from A to B be the route it would choose from A to C plus the route it would
choose from C to B?

(I'm sure these questions have been asked before but a Google search on
"routing" turns up an impossible number of hits. There's NOTHING in the
Garmin FAQ on these questions!)

Thanks, Bob

I have one of these splendid electronic marvels, so that makes me innately
qualified to brilliantly answer your questions.

> 1) Will it always choose the same route from A to B?

Probably. I can't imagine it doing it any differently. In fact, right out of
my home's subdivision it regularly routes me on a street that's dangerous to
get to, and in reality is a lot slower than my regular route in that
direction. There's no way I can change it other than drive my regular route,
and then subject myself to the "Recalculating!" admonishment.

Usually. Sometimes A to B may be via a one-way street or some other funny
routing, maybe with U-turns that may not be available from B to A.

Maybe. It depends if C is on the way to B, or out of the way. When you're
bored, set up simulated routing scenarios around your neighborhood to find
out for yourself. I suggest routing from home to points near home, because
the simulations take as long as it expects you to actually drive them. I
once set one up from home to a destination 20 minutes away, and, yes, the
damned thing takes 20 minutes....

If A and B are always the exact same spot then it should always choose
the same route from A to B. Remember that it is a computer running a
program, if the program's data points don't change then the program
should always output the same data.

Yes, unless B to A includes one-way streets, no left turns, no right
turns or B's location changes. If B is a shopping center and you
leave by a different entrance then the route might be different.

Yes, it should be. I can't think of a reason why it would be
different.

I hope this helps. I don't understand why you would be concerned
about routes the GPS chooses. If you already know the way, why use
the GPS? If you don't know the way, why would you care what criteria
it uses?

Remember the shortest route A and C may not include B if that was 5 miles to
the side. It is safe to say it will pick the fastest, shortest or your
preference route.

You would think that, but I also have the 350. Sometimes there is a minor
change in the route. I don't have a clue why, but the end result is always
the same though. The computer has to make many calculations so perhaps a
variable comes into play for one reason or another. Maybe rounding in the
math, maybe satellite position from one week to the next?
