I have a 260W. It takes about 20 seconds to boot up and then another
30 to 40 seconds to lock onto satellites. This is when my car is
parked. Is this normal?
If I am driving, it can take upwards of 15 minutes to get a signal
lock. I have read that it is much harder to get a lock while driving
but I have also heard that Tom Tom compensates for that with some sort
of software patch. Is this true? If so, does Garmin have a similar
"patch"?
My specs are:
software version: 3.40
gps sw version: 3.00s
Any info would be appreciated.

I'd say that's normal, as that's about what it takes for my 350 to work.

I don't know about that, but it may have to do with your vehicle. I'm not
quite suggesting you hold the 260W out the window... the next best thing may
be to set it on the dashboard as close to the windshield as possible. If
you're already doing that... ?
Hi Henry, have you run the WebUpdater program with your GPS to make sure
the firmware is up to date?

I downloaded the latest updates three days ago and this is what I have
now:
software version: 3.40
gps sw version: 3.00s
Is there somewhere I can find out the latest firmware for a GPS? I
tries this site:
http://www8.garmin.com/support/blosp.jsp
but it didn't have the nuvi 260W.
Thanks in advance

yes -
the satellites are constantly moving,
and the GPS initially "thinks" the same ones are above,
but then discovers they are not,
and has to "find" which ones are now within view.

wow - my 260 maybe takes 30-60secs
what kind of vehicle, where is the GPS mounted,
any obstructions, metailized windshield, etc
