Are the new Montana models, when they get under a thick canopy,
as good at receiving signals as the Rinos, or better -- or only in a
class with the old Etrex Vista?

I tried putting that question to Garmin support. The reply
waffled a little, but basically sed the Montana has a more sensitive
antenna than the Rino. I think I'll get one, probably from rei.com.

I was surprised when I turned one on inside Sportsmans Warehouse and
it locked onto 8 satellites. (metal roof with a few skylights spread
well apart.)
To be fair, I took an Oregon 550 outside along with the Montana 650t
to let them both get a good lock.

Went inside, lock on Oregon was sporadic, Montana kept going pretty
well. (used satellite screen).
Montana kept better signal levels & number of satellites while walking
around inside the store.

Screen visibility is much improved over Oregons & 62s.
one touch access of dashboard is very nice to show your choice of info.

What's the Montana have vs the other latest outdoor modles - Dakota & Oregon
?
Guess we'll have to see some feature/function comparative matrix.

I'm still driving with our Nuvi 255 & 260
and Geocaching with our XL 12
