Is there a program that will set my PC's time (I'm still running Win98SE)
using my serial Etrex Vista when it is not receiving any satellites? I use
it inside to get the correct time by simply turning it on and looking at the
correct screen 'cause it keeps good time between active sessions, but I
would like to use it to set my PC also.

There is a small program called GPSTime that will do this as long as the GPS
is receiving NMEA sentences, but that's not what I need.

Thanks
Jim

Do you get on the internet with the W98SE PC? If so, you just need a
time server software to install on that.

The computers I want to use GPS to set time with, are field Libretto's that
I use for a number of research related needs. One is to download and then
re-launch HOBO data loggers, which set their internal clocks to the PC time
at each launch.

To answer your question: of course you can get on the web with Win98, but I
need an alternate way to accurately set the system time when I am not able
to get on-line, and that's why I asked for a way to get it from my GPS which
is always with me (but not necessarily out-of-doors) and as accurate as you
can get in the field.

Soooooooo, do you have a way for me to do this?

You can do this with Garmin MapSource: Utilities menu -> Set PC clock

I don't have MapSource so I cannot verify whether that works without a
current fix.

I wrote a Psion program years ago that did exactly this, getting the time
using the Garmin protocol which doesn't depend on a current fix.

What's it worth to transfer this to PC?

Mike.
