This may have been asked before but I sure can't find it.

Have a Garmin 76CSx with numerous routes loaded.
I leave home, where a route starts, but do not have the unit on.
I get down the road and have gone past two of the way points loaded for that
route.
I now turn the unit on and pick the route I want.
I am on the route, but, the unit wants me to turn around and go back to the
starting point of the route (home) to navigate me correctly.
Is there a way to be on a route, turn the unit on and have it go from the
current location, which is somewhere along the route and just start
navigating from there?

That has not been my experience with my own 76CSx; it's always directed
me to the waypoint or via that's closest to my current location. I
suppose it might direct you back to a missed waypoint if you're still
closer to it than the next waypoint or your destination, but if you
press on, it will give up once you're closer to the next point.

That's the same thing that happens when I choose to ignore its
directions and go off-route on my own.

Finally, the tiniest of advantages for the lowly Nuvi line. On my 760
in that situation, it simply puts up a dialog asking if I want to
navigate to the beginning of the route or pick up from my current
location (paraphrasing). I tap the appropriate response and off I go.

I would think that if you stay on the route for a few minutes, it
should pick up the route again or recalculate to the destination

Thanks to all for the info.
Never thought about being closer to a way point behind me than the next one
down the line.
Will give that a try next time I travel.
I may have given up to soon on letting it just go until I got closer to the
next way point.
