I use a 660 and my wife recently acquired a 760 for her car.
We took a trip last year from Dayton, OH to Salisbury, MD using my 660.
We were routed through Columbus, Wheeling, OH the to Washington, Pa,
south to Morgantown WVA, then east toward Baltimore, MD. Shortly
before Baltimore, we were routed southeast and then across the
Chesapeake Bay Bridge to Route 50 on to Salisbury, MD.
Last night, when planning another trip to Salisbury MD, I took the Nuvi
760 and requested the same destination from Dayton, OH. The 760 routed
us the same way until the turn off prior to Baltimore. The 760 routed
us east thru Baltimore over to Delaware and then south by southwest to
Salisbury,MD.
The maps are different in each Nuvi, but the 760 is a year newer than
the 660 - both are the default map that was in the unit when we bought
them. I wouldn't think that there was that much of a difference seeing
we use major highways and no side trips.
In both cases I have tried both time and distance options, but it does
not seem to matter - 760 thru Baltimore, the 660 across the Chesapeake
Bay BRIDGE.
WHat could account for this difference ?
It would be interesting to map the route using Google Maps, or Mapquest,
where you can click & drag the path any where you want,
or even with Garmin Mapsource, etc -
to see and compare the two different suggested routes for distance vs time.
There must be some variable that changed, or is being considered
differently...
It's always "interesting" to see what route the GPS takes vs what you think
should work.
I've discovered some new and different places, roads, etc - while following
the GPS -

Maybe a slight difference in the way the routing algorithm calculates
the route? - Or change in the speed it applies to a particular road
section?
I often think Satnavs should have a 'sensible' route option, where by
they will avoid routing you via a complicated back street route just
because it thinks it will be a minute faster or whatever. when really
you'd be quite happy to stay on the main road

With Google maps, you can upload the destination to your Nuvi via USB. I
don't know if it just saves the destination name and lets the GPS figure
the route, or if it saves the route info from the Google map. If the
latter, you can upload the edited map route. Does anyone know which it
does?

Never mind. I decided to try it myself with my nuvi 765. Even before I
sent the destination to the nuvi, it said on the send window "Only
destination address will get sent".
