There are a lot of refurbished units available at various places. Can
anyone enlighten me as to any bad experiences you have had by purchasing a
refurb? I have bought a couple of refurbed digital cameras in the past with
only good experiences. Curious if I could expect the same with a GPS. Am
thinking of a Garmin Nuvi 255w in particular.

I bought a refurb 360 a couple of years ago; it's my first, so I don't
know if the screen should be brighter than it is, but otherwise works
fine.

Just got a pair of refurb 1490T units. Same warranty, $100 off each and
they work fine.

yep, I wouldn't be afraid of something that said refurb. It could be
that someone just opened the box and a part was missing. If something
was wrong with it, chances are it's been fixed and gone over a LOT beter
than a new unit as they come with full manufacturers warranties. I'm not
sure that ALL come with full warranty, but I believe they do, check to
be sure.

The Garmins do. Plus I pay for it on a card that doubles the warranty for
up to an additional year.
